After marrying an American Lieutenant with whom he was assigned to work with in post war Germany, a French Captain attempts to find a way to accompany her back to the United States.
Based loosely on a true story on the same topic – a male European marrying female U.S. armed forces personnel – the film was shot on location in Germany just after the end of WWII. It captures the beauty of the countryside along with the devastation of urban areas with documentary-like precision. Sheridan is at her best – sexy and tough -delivering her lines in her most skilled dry manner almost oblivious to Grant who comedically suffers difficulties of the red tape variety at every turn.
