Directed By Alexander Mackendrick. 96mins.

An unethical and powerful Broadway columnist coerces an unscrupulous press agent into breaking up his sister’s romance with a jazz musician.

A cinematic must-see! It’s a revelation to see how good actors can be when given a decent screenplay to work with, and the entire cast take this in their teeth and do the very best! Lancaster’s performance plays like an unstoppable freight train commanding every scene and delivering the dialogue of his slimy evil character with panache and with the utmost confidence to achieve his perverse ends. Curtis is likewise brilliant here as the conniving press agent. Cinematography by James Wong Howe has us almost smelling the wet rainy New York streets being one of the greatest black and white lensed films of the 50’s!
