In a rural English hospital during WWII, a postman dies on the operating table. One of the nurses states that she has proof of who the murderer is. The facetious Inspector Cockrill suspects one of the five doctors and nurses who were in the operating theater to be the assassin. But four poisonous pills have disappeared….

This dark but delicious film is a classic whodunit in every sense of the word! Brilliantly funny moments and darker ones with mood and lighting mix beautifully in a film that easily holds the viewers attention! Enter Inspector Cockrill (Alastair Sim in his film debut) in love with his own abilities bringing mirth and a scene stealing ability in his brilliant playing. Not to be missed on the big screen!

A selection of period shorts will be screened prior to intermission.

Our thanks to the National Film and Sound Archive, Canberra’s lending collection for supply of film prints for this screening.
