OLD ACQUAINTANCE (1943)

Stars Bette Davis, Miriam Hopkins, Gig Young, John Loder, Dolores Moran, Roscoe Karns, Anne Revere. Directed by Vincente Sherman.

Two women who have contrasting natures have a life long friendship that survives despite the ups and downs, rivalries, jealousies and the overt self-centredness of one of them.

The two leading ladies take centre stage and kick up a storm in this beautifully crafted, highly enjoyable movie that sweeps along nicely keeping the audience glued to the screen with ease. Maybe that they actually loathed each other in real life helped the on-screen moments of towering tension in the emotional boxing ring in which they enter on several occasions leading to a climactic release which one will never forget! A classic “womens picture” in every sense of the word!
